Volume Statistics

Knight Capital Group, Inc. (September 15, 2008) (Nasdaq: NITE) today posted monthly U.S. equity volume statistics for the month of August 2008.

For the month of August 2008, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite Index rose 1.5 percent, 1.2 percent and 1.8 percent, respectively.
 
"In August, unease in the capital markets and pronounced seasonal slowness dampened investor activity, resulting in lower stock market volumes," said Thomas M. Joyce, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Knight Capital Group. "At Knight, we witnessed double-digit sequential declines in Listed and NASDAQ volumes. While shares traded of Bulletin Boards and Pink Sheets rose, trade volume fell 17 percent."

   Average daily dollar value traded in August 2008 was $15.8 billion, down approximately 21.0 percent from $20.0 billion in July 2008 and up approximately 12.0 percent from $14.1 billion in August 2007.

   Average daily U.S. equity trade volume in August 2008 was 2.0 million, down approximately 19.4 percent from 2.5 million in July 2008, and up approximately 38.8 percent from 1.4 million in August 2007.

   Average daily U.S. equity share volume was 5.5 billion in August 2008, up approximately 5.3 percent from 5.2 billion in July 2008, and up approximately 67.7 percent from 3.3 billion in August 2007.

There were 21 trading days in August 2008, 21.5 in July 2008, and 23 in August 2007.
